Aesthetic and Marketing-Oriented Options in Web Design

Whether you’re just setting up a web site or you’re revamping one that you had set up some time ago, it’s always a good idea to know the basics of web design.  Of course, it’s become de rigueur for websites to have a basic home page, an “about us” section, a “contact us” section and more tabs to describe their products and services.  Additionally, many companies opt to have a blog for which they might hire a writer or a blog-writing service.  Having a blog is a sign of being a thought leader in your field.  After all, it’s not always that easy to come up with something to write about every week or so.

Visually Appealing vs. Text-Oriented Websites

If you’re in the process of setting up a website today, you’ll also have to decide whether you want to have a more visually appealing website with a number of images and videos or if you’re going for something more text-oriented.  In general, your decision will depend upon what kind of field you work in.  If you’re in something more visually oriented like fashion or interior design, images and videos are going to be really important.  But if you’re providing translation services or selling books, you might opt to be more text-oriented.

Selling Products or Services Via the Internet

Another option you’ll have is making your products or services available via the internet.  For many vendors, this really opens up their market.  You might have a small bookstore with a limited clientele but if you can sell on the internet as well, you’ll be increasing your customer base a great deal.

Of course, there are going to be some products or services that can’t be provided on the internet.  For example, if you run a cleaning service or a hair salon, you can’t provide these services over the internet.  Still, there might be other ways in which you can use your website.  For example, you can’t provide cleaning services over the internet but you can give people the option of making an appointment for these services.  Similarly, people can make hair appointments at salons over the internet too.  And you might be able to sell exclusive beauty products over the internet even if you can’t sell your services.
