5 Ways to Improve Your Social Media Engagement

Where would social media be without engagement? It’s a great question to ask because so many brands are struggling to keep up in what many see as the “rat race” of social media. The important thing to remember is that your social accounts are not a chore for you to complete; rather, they are an opportunity.

This is a chance to get to know the people who are interested in your products or services. This is a chance at a free focus group. This is your tool to communicate directly with your target market in a way that was never possible before. Once you see all the true possibilities that exist for your business with social media, you’ll likely approach the task with a different mindset.

Now you can see why engagement is so important. Without it, you’re just talking to yourself. Social networking is not meant to be a virtual billboard for you to blast your messages to the masses and walk away from the responses. Quite the opposite, it’s meant to be the platform for a two-way relationship with your potential customers and clients.

They will expect it from you and they will seek you out. This is a great way to get the engagement up because you are creating brand awareness and setting positive expectations. Example: Use a content calendar to map out your postings for weeks or even months at a time so you remain consistent.
  • Get the timing right: Knowing when to post is key. You also want to be sure you don’t post too often or too little to remain relevant and top of mind with your connections. Use statistics and analytics to help you determine the best times to post to your accounts. Example: If most of your connections are hanging out in the evenings after work, this is when you want to send new content to them.
  • Use different types of media: Some people prefer to read. Others like to see videos. Many people are visually drawn to images. Using different types of media in your postings allows you to reach a wider audience of people and it also shows you are diverse in your content creation. Example: Create your own original image posts that share your message and are branded to your business.
  • Engagement is a two-way street: You would be surprised at how many brands complain of low engagement but never take the time to interact with their own fans and followers. It’s such a simple thing and it’s neglected regularly. Example: Ask your connections how they are doing or how they feel about something, then be sure to follow up and respond to their answers.

These are just a few tips to improving your social media engagement. No one can master social marketing overnight but this advice will have you acting like a pro and moving in the right direction towards a positive social experience.
